Create a directory in your sdcard called skins. Put the skin.zip there and it should show up in Smart Keyboard settings.

Try a combination of force-stopping SK then changing skin, or changing skin the force-stopping.

Settings>Applications>Manage Applications, force-stop SKP and try again.

If it does not fix it try clearing data as well.

I don't think you can download bigger dictionaries, but I know you can save words to dictionaries once they're downloaded.

A workaround is to, after the text is sent, bring up the keyboard again and hit backspace.

Try disabling the stock keyboard.

This is a message put forth by the Android system. It will appear on any keyboard but the stock one.

Smart Keyboard will not steal any passwords or personal data- note how the Android message says:
